Imam Ahmed Bin Hanbal (241 AH)

Ahmad Ibn Hanbal is a Fiqh, and Hadith Imam and a founder of a popular Hanbali school of Sunni jurisprudence. He was born in Baghdad in 164 AH when there was Abbasi Caliphate.

Ahmed Bin Hanbal was one of the most influential and respectful scholars of his time and his authorships are rare. One of his notable works is Musnad e Ahmad Ibn Hanbal which is one of the earliest Hadith collections.

Ibn Hanbal was born in Baghdad, Iraq because his father was an officer in the Abbasi army. From a very young age, Ahmad Bin Hanbal started learning Fiqh and Hadith. He traveled to Syria, Iraq, and Arabia to find and collect the Hadith of Prophet Muhammad saw.

After many years of travel and hard work, he became a leading authority in Hadith which resulted in Musnad Ahmad Ibn Hanbal. Which is the largest encyclopedia of Hadith in the Sunni school of thought.

After returning to Baghdad, he also learned Fiqh and Islamic laws from Imam Al Shafi’i. In his old age, Ibn Hanbal became Mufti and his thinking later on became a Hambali branch in the Sunni school of thought.

His thinkings are popular and dominant in UAE, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia mostly in Wahabism. Ahmad Ibn Hanbal died in the month of Rabi-ul-awwal, 241 AH in Baghdad, Iraq. It’s reported that his Funeral was attended by over 800,000 people.
